| Q1.
As an entering student, how do I apply for an academic scholarship
at Syracuse University? |
| The

based on |
| the
student's admission application. Freshmen may be eligible to receive
the Founders' |
| ($12,000),
Chancellor's ($8,000) or Dean's ($6,000) Scholarship. Transfer students
may |
| be
eligible to receive the Chancellor's ($8,000) or the Dean's ($6,000)
Scholarship. No |
| separate
application is required. For
further information, visit the Scholarship

| |
| Q2.
I received an academic scholarship this year. Will this scholarship
be renewed? |
| To
continue to receive an academic scholarship you must maintain a minimum
|
| cumulative
grade point average (GPA), enroll as a full-time undergraduate, and
|
| complete
at least 12 credits a semester. Students have three semesters to meet
the |

If your |
| GPA
falls below the minimum requirement, University-funded Scholarships
will not be |
| renewed
for the following academic year. |
| |

who receive a University-funded scholarship beginning with the fall
2007 |
| semester,
must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.75.
|

semester, |
| must
maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. |
| |
| Q3.

| the
same in subsequent years. |
| |

Does Syracuse University offer any other scholarships?
|

number of competitive scholarships
are awarded to entering freshmen such as |

| Q6.
Does Syracuse University provide applications for scholarships from
sources other than the University? |
| The
Office of Scholarship Programs receives a number of applications from
|
| various
sources and students are notified of these through our home page,
listserv and |
| bulletin
board. We encourage students to research scholarship opportunities
on |
| their
own through the use of the Internet, publications available in our
office and local |
| resources
in their community. To view a listing of scholarships currently available,
|

| |
| Q7.
I received a scholarship from my high school for my freshman year.
Will my financial aid be adjusted? |
| Generally
external scholarships,
those scholarships received from sources other than |
| Syracuse
University, will be used to meet the student's remaining need. If
a student |
| does
not have remaining need, it may be necessary to adjust the self-help
(i.e. student |
| loans
and Federal Work-Study) portion of the financial
aid award. It is best to contact |
|
your Financial Aid Counselor or the Office of of Scholarship Programs
with specific |
| questions.
|
| |
| Q8.
When is the best time to start looking for scholarships?
|
| The
sooner the better. Searching
for scholarships does take time so it's a good idea |
| to
start early and search often. Eligibility requirements vary as do
the deadline dates |
| so
don't limit yourself or be discouraged if the results are not exactly
as you expect |
| right
away. |
| |
| Q9.
What about the scholarship search services that I keep reading about?
They make it sound so easy and often guarantee finding scholarships
that I would qualify for. |
| Beware
of any scholarship search
service that guarantees results, especially for a fee.
|
| Use
caution with unsolicited offers of assistance and read all the fine
print carefully. |
