an entering student, how do I apply for an academic scholarship
at Syracuse University? |

Syracuse
University offer Founders’, Chancellor and Dean’s merit
scholarships to entering freshmen based on the
student's admission application.
These scholarships may be used to pay up to $12,000 of tuition costs.
Syracuse University offers merit scholarships up to $6,000 for transfer
students. |

received an academic scholarship this year. Will this scholarship
be renewed? |
| To
continue to receive an academic scholarship you must maintain a minimum
|
| cumulative
grade point average (GPA), enroll as a full-time undergraduate, and
|
| complete
at least 12 credits a semester. Students have three semesters to meet
the |
| grade
point average requirement, and transfer students have three semesters.
If your |
| GPA
falls below the minimum requirement, University-funded Scholarships
will not be |
| renewed
for the following academic year. |

| Students
who receive a University-funded scholarship beginning with the fall
2007 |
| semester,
must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.75.
|
| Students
who received University-funded scholarships prior to the fall 2007
semester, |
| must
maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. |

If I do well academically, will my Dean's Scholarship
be increased to a Chancellor's Scholarship? |
| No.
These academic scholarships are awarded your entering year and the
value remains |
| the
same in subsequent years. |

| Does
Syracuse University offer any other scholarships? |
| A
number of competitive scholarships
are awarded to entering freshmen such as |
| the
Citizen Education Conference Scholarship, VPA Art Portfolio, and VPA
Special |
| Music
Scholarship. Eligibility for these scholarships is determined at the
time of |
| admission
and there are no separate applications required. |

| Transfer
students may be eligible for the Phi
Theta Kappa Scholarship. Inquiries |
| regarding
this scholarship are directed to the Office of Scholarship Programs.

| Each
year, 35 Remembrance
Scholarships are awarded to full-time undergraduate |
| students
entering their final year at Syracuse. Applications for this scholarship
are |
| available
in November. The deadline is usually in January. |

| Does
Syracuse University provide applications for scholarships from sources
other than the University? |
| The
Office of Scholarship Programs receives a number of applications from
|
| various
sources and students are notified of these through our home page,
listserv and |
| bulletin
board. We encourage students to research scholarship opportunities
on |
| their
own through the use of the Internet, publications available in our
office and local |
| resources
in their community. To view a listing of scholarships currently available,
|
| visit
our external scholarship
bulletin board. |

| I
received a scholarship from my high school for my freshman year. Will
my financial aid be adjusted? |
| Generally
external scholarships,
those scholarships received from sources other than |
| Syracuse
University, will be used to meet the student's remaining need. If
a student |
| does
not have remaining need, it may be necessary to adjust the self-help
(i.e. student |
| loans
and Federal Work-Study) portion of the financial
aid award. It is best to contact |
|
your Financial Aid Counselor or the Office of of Scholarship Programs
with specific |
| questions.

| When
is the best time to start looking for scholarships? |
| The
sooner the better. Searching
for scholarships does take time so it's a good idea |
| to
start early and search often. Eligibility requirements vary as do
the deadline dates |
| so
don't limit yourself or be discouraged if the results are not exactly
as you expect |
| right
away. |

make it sound so easy and often guarantee finding scholarships that
I would qualify for. |

service that guarantees results, especially for a fee.
