FEDERAL LOAN EXIT COUNSELING

For students graduating or no longer attending Syracuse University

Federal Stafford Loan Exit Counseling

The Department of Education requires that you complete a Loan Counseling session at the time that you separate from the University to ensure that you are aware of both your rights and your responsibilities as a Federal Stafford Loan borrower.

This session is not compatible with AOL or CompuServ browsers, so please use a browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer to complete the session. If you do not have access to one of these browsers, feel free to use a computer cluster on campus.

Click on one of the orange boxes below to begin an Exit Counseling Session:

The personalized* counseling loan session involves using actual loan data reported by your lenders**.
The general loan counseling session does not involve using any personalized loan data.

* You will need your HESC PIN to access the personalized session. If you do not have a HESC PIN, you will be prompted to create one.

** The loan information reported by your lenders is to be used for budgeting purposes. It may not include all loans that you have borrowed (for example, it will not include any of your Direct Loans and may not include any alternative loans). For your most accurate borrowing data, please contact your lender(s) directly.

Additional, Personalized Loan Counseling

Once you have completed the required online counseling session above, you are eligible to receive a personalized loan repayment counseling session with our Loan Education Specialist, Becky Rose. Ms. Rose will prepare a repayment guide specifically for you, containing information regarding the loans that you have borrowed while at Syracuse University.

To schedule a personalized session, please contact Ms. Rose at finaidu4@syr.edu. You will need to include your name, SUID, field of study (major), and potential career field.

Federal Perkins Loan Counseling

If you are a Perkins loan borrower, you must also complete a Perkins Loan Exit Counseling Session, located on the Student Debt Management web site.
