Check
your Financial Aid Portfolio. You should check your
Financial Aid Portfolio on MySlice
often to view your financial aid awards and to be certain that all
required tasks have been completed. This should be done on a routine
basis as tasks may be added and/or financial aid adjustments may
be made throughout the year. Watch
for important filing deadlines and complete all the necessary financial
aid forms on time.
|
Visit
the Office of Financial Aid. You should check with
the Financial Aid Office at least once per semester regarding the
status of your aid, or whenever you have questions about your aid.
Review the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship
Programs' web site on a regular basis. In addition, you may sign
up for the Scholarship listserv so you
can receive notification of scholarship opportunities directly in
your e-mail. Before you leave campus for the summer, make sure that
the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Programs has received
all required applications.
|
You
are responsible for your student financial account.
Plan on checking with the Bursar's Office several times a year to
review your account. Your class schedule may be canceled or you may
not be able to register or adjust your class schedule if you have
financial holds on your account.
|
| Check
your University assigned email account often.
University-assigned student email accounts are Syracuse University's
official means of communication with all students. You are responsible
for all information sent to you via your "syr.edu" email
account. If you choose to forward your University email account,
you are still responsible for all the information sent to your University
email account.
|
| You
need to keep track of your mail and read the information sent to you.
Important documents are sent to your permanent address. Make arrangements
so that you will receive any mail sent home while you are on campus.
Make sure your permanent and local addresses are listed with the Registrar's
Office and are correct, so that you receive any mail sent to you.
You may update your contact information via http://myslice.syr.edu.
During the summer - usually mid to late June - you will receive a
financial aid award letter if you have submitted the required applications.
Bursar bills for the fall semester are mailed out in the beginning
of July; spring semester bills are mailed out in October. |
Keep
copies of everything you send and receive
and
bring copies with you to campus in case you need them. You may keep
the originals at home.
|
You
will need to arrive on campus with funds for books, living expenses
and miscellaneous expenses. Even
if you ultimately expect to receive a refund from the Bursar's Office,
you might not receive the refund until your loan funds are posted
in your account which could be later in the semester.
Grad students: If you are currently in repayment on a student educational
loan, you will be responsible for educational loan payments until
your enrollment status at SU has been certified and your lender notified
of this change. Please note that this process takes approximately
40 days after classes begin to be finalized.
|
You
must meet satisfactory academic progress guidelines to continue to
receive financial aid.
There
are both federal and state guidelines that are detailed in the "Academic
Rules and Regulations" publication available on the the Registrar's
Office web site. A good rule of thumb to avoid loss of aid due
to insufficient academic progress is to register for at least 12 new
credits each semester, earn a passing grade for all courses, and maintain
a cumulative 2.0 GPA. Refer to the Policies
web page for additional information about academic progress.
