FINANCIAL AID TIMELINE
FOR RETURNING STUDENTS IN FALL 2008
(2008-2009)
 
October 2007
  • Update your mailing and e-mail addresses at FAFSA on the Web to ensure you will receive your Renewal FAFSA Application information.
  • Visit the Office of Scholarship Programs, 216 Archbold North, to search for external scholarship opportunities.
 
January 2008
  • January 17 - February 16 - Look for the FAFSA Renewal reminder (via email) from U.S. Department of Education.
  • Both parents and students should confirm their Personal Identification Numbers (PIN) at www.pin.ed.gov.
  • Begin applying for 2008-2009 financial aid by filing the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Assistance in filing these forms is available by calling the Dept. of Ed at 1-800-4-FED-AID or by visiting your college's financial aid office..
  • New York State residents file for the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) online when filing FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
  • Continue your external scholarship search by visiting the Office of Scholarship Programs’ scholarship listings. This is the time of year when scholarship applications are at their peak, so take advantage of these new opportunities!
 
February 2008
  • Begin checking your Financial Aid Portfolio to complete any required tasks for the 2008-2009 financial aid year. Visit http://myslice.syr.edu.
  • Continue your external scholarship search by visiting the Office of Scholarship Programs’ scholarship listings. This is the time of year when scholarship applications are at their peak, so take advantage of these new opportunities!
 
March 2008
 
April 2008
  • April 1 - Syracuse University FAFSA deadline.
 
June 2008
  • Early June - View your 08-09 Financial Aid Award on your Financial Aid Portfolio.
  • June - Sibling in College grant recipients receive instructions to complete the sibling enrollment verification form.
  • June 1 - PLUS Loan, Stafford Loan, Perkins Loan application deadline, if you wish these funds to appear on your July Bursar bill.
  • June 1 - Bursar Payment Plan application deadline.
 
July 2008
  • July 28 - Fall semester bill (Pre-bill) due in full to Bursar’s Office, if not already on the payment plan.
 
August 2008
  • August 1 - Final deadline for NEW Federal Stafford Loan borrowers to complete the Federal Stafford Loan e-MPN, otherwise your loan will be cancelled.
  • August 1 - Final deadline for NEW Federal Perkins Loan borrowers to complete the Federal Perkins Loan e-MPN, otherwise your loan will be cancelled.
  • Federal Stafford Loan approvals (disclosure statements) are sent to students from lenders.
  • August 15 - Financial aid funds credited to student accounts.
  • August 23- 24 - Opening Weekend.
  • August 25 - First day of classes.
  • Notify the Office of Scholarship Programs of any outside scholarships you will be receiving.
  • Federal Work-Study (FWS) recipients search for jobs on the Student Employment Office web site.
 
September 2008
  • Mid-September - Last day to drop classes without a financial penalty (usually 3 weeks after classes begin).
