Ask your parents for help. The Federal PLUS loan is available to parents and step-parents of undergraduate students to help pay for education expenses. This Federal loan has a fixed 8.5% interest rate and also offers the Federal protections of the Stafford loan program. (Interest paid on Federal loans may also be tax-deductible.) The parent borrower must pass a basic credit check, but the check looks for adverse credit history only and is not based on FICO score.
