OF FINANCIAL AID

The
information below pertains to your financial aid award notice and
lists the types of Financial Aid that Syracuse University offers.
Your financial aid award notice may consist of one or more of the
following:
|
- Syracuse
University Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded to students at the time of admission
to recognize prior academic achievement. University-funded scholarships
include the Founders' Scholarship, Chancellor's Scholarship and
Dean's Scholarship.

- Syracuse
University Grant
Syracuse University Grants are awarded to students based on financial
need and do not have to be repaid. Students must apply for financial
aid each year by completing the required applications and must
demonstrate financial need.

- Federal
Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
This is a federal grant awarded to students showing exceptional
financial need and does not have to be repaid. Eligibility and
amount are determined annually, based on federal criteria and
availability of funds.

- Academic
Competitiveness Grant (ACG)
The
U.S. Department of Education has created a federal grant program,
called the Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG). Up to $750 will
be awarded to eligible first year students and up to $1,300 to
eligible second year students. By filing the Free Application
for Student Aid (FAFSA), you are automatically considered for

- Science
and Mathmatics Access to Retain Talent Grant (SMART)
The
U.S. Department of Education has created a federal grant program,
called the Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant
(SMART). Up to $4,000 will be awarded to eligible juniors and
seniors. By filing the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA),
you are automatically considered for federal SMART eligibility.

- Federal
Pell Grant
The Federal Pell Grant is awarded to students demonstrating exceptional
financial need and does not have to be repaid. Eligibility and
amount are determined annually, based on federal criteria.

- Federal
Work-Study (FWS)
A Federal Work-Study award represents the amount that a student
may earn through the work-study program. A Federal Work-Study
award does not appear as a credit on a student's Bursar bill.
A student receives a weekly paycheck for the hours actually worked.
|
- Federal
Perkins Loan
This is a low-interest federal loan awarded to students showing
significant financial need. The Federal Perkins Loan must be repaid,
with interest. Interest is not charged while a student is enrolled
full-time.

- Federal
Stafford Loan
The Federal Stafford Loan must be repaid, with interest. The amount
you may receive for the academic year is based on the number of
credits you have completed. A Stafford Loan may be subsidized,
unsubsidized, or a combination of the two.
A subsidized Federal Stafford Loan is based on need, and interest
is not charged until after a student leaves school. An unsubsidized
loan is not based on need and interest is charged from the time
the funds are disbursed. The interest may be deferred, however,
it will be capitalized (added to the principal amount).

- New
York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)
The New York State Tuition Assistance Program is a grant program
administered by the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation
(HESC). All students who are residents of New York State and who
complete a FAFSA will receive information directly from HESC regarding
eligibility.

our office's requirements and you have not received your financial
aid award notice by the date listed, please contact
our office.
