Applying for a Federal Stafford Loan
  • By completing the FAFSA and the Syracuse University Undergraduate Summer Financial Aid Application you are applying for the Federal Stafford Loan. After the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Programs certifies your loan eligibility you will be emailed a Financial Aid Award Notice to your syr.edu email address.
  • Once you receive this notice, check the Task Tab on your Summer 2008 Financial Aid Portfolio at myslice.syr.edu. Any additional forms that you need to complete (such as Federal Stafford Promissory Note) will be listed there.
  • Please note- you cannot rollover your summer charges to the fall 2008 semester.

Other Loan Programs
Parents of dependent undergraduate students may be eligible to borrow a Federal PLUS Loan. For instructions on how to apply for a summer Parent PLUS loan, please click here. If the parent is denied the Federal PLUS Loan, students may be eligible for additional unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan funds.

Students who are certified for the maximum Federal Stafford Loan, but are still eligible for financial assistance, may apply for an Alternative Loan.
To apply for an Alternative Loan for the summer, you must complete the SU Summer Financial Aid Application (see below) AND the Alternative Loan Application provided by your lender. For more information on Alternative Loans, please see our undergraduate loan information section on our web site.
