The University strives to meet the financial need of admitted students and offers a variety of funding options to help make college as affordable as possible. Consider these facts:
- During the previous academic year, approximately 82% of Syracuse University students received some form of financial support totaling more than $465 million, including assistance from institutional, federal, state, or private sources.
- The single largest form of that financial aid was more than $349 million awarded to students in the form of Syracuse University grants and scholarships.
The 2024-2025 FAFSA was not available until the end of December 2023. Colleges and universities will not receive FAFSA forms from the Department of Education until March 2024.

Applying for Financial Aid
Students must meet the Department of Education’s Eligibility Requirements to apply for need-based financial aid.
All students seeking need-based aid are required to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This is the application for federal student aid. You may also choose to apply for a Syracuse University Grant. A grant is money that does not have to be repaid. You’ll need to file the CSS Profile to do so.
Please be sure to meet the financial aid filing deadlines. Applications submitted after the deadline may be awarded on a funds-available basis.
To Apply for 2024-25 Financial Aid, complete the:
- 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) – to apply for federal aid.
- 2024-25 CSS Profile – to apply for Syracuse University grant funding
FAFSA Information:
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the application for federal student aid. To have your information transmitted to Syracuse University, please use our School Code: 002882.
CSS Profile Information:
The College Scholarship Service (CSS) Profile is the application for Syracuse University grant funding. Both the FAFSA and the CSS Profile need to be completed to be considered for Syracuse University grant funding. To have your information transmitted to Syracuse University, please use our School Code: 2823.
Other Forms that May be Required:
The Non-Custodial Parent Profile (NCP ): This form is required if your parents are divorced, separated, or are not married and not living together.
Income tax forms: We will notify you if your income tax information (transcripts, schedules, W-2, etc.) is required.
Parent Information: Parent information may be requested from students who are listed as independent on the FAFSA. We may request additional information about your parents.
After You Apply
Your financial aid applications will be reviewed and you will be notified of your eligibility after you are admitted to Syracuse University.
You must reapply for financial aid each year.
Federal and state regulations, funding availability, and University policy factor into determining your award. Your Syracuse award notice may contain any of the following:
- Syracuse University merit scholarships are awarded at the time of admission. Merit-based scholarships are awarded based on the strength of your application for admission. No separate application is required.
- Syracuse need-based grants
- Federal and state grants
- Student loans
- Employment eligibility
- Outside scholarships or tuition benefits
MySlice: Keep Track of Forms and Applications
After you apply for admission, you’ll receive instructions for accessing MySlice, your secure virtual gateway to life at Syracuse. This portal will keep you up-to-date on the financial aid application forms and documents you need to submit to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Programs. Check it often to stay current on requirements and deadlines.
Special Circumstances
Sometimes special circumstances can impact a student’s financial aid situation, including certain living arrangements or family situations that may change during your time at Syracuse University. The U.S. Department of Education selects students each year for verification and requires that our office confirm the data that was supplied by the student, spouse, and/or parent(s). Read more about verification.
Renewing Financial Aid
To renew your financial aid, you will need to file the aid applications and forms each year as listed on your MySlice Financial Aid To Do List before the deadline.
Applications submitted after the deadline will be considered on a funds-available basis. Federal aid eligibility is determined by regulations, your eligibility, and funding availability.
Changes in family financial circumstances (income, assets, number of household members attending undergraduate school, etc.) will affect your financial need and aid eligibility.
