STUDENTS OF SU EMPLOYEES |
| |
| Syracuse
University is a member of The
Tuition Exchange, Inc. This program provides the opportunity for
dependents of our faculty and staff to apply for competitive scholarships
to other member institutions – over 580 colleges and universities. |
|
| Eligibility
|
Eligibility
to participate in the Tuition Exchange program is determined by Syracuse
University’s Office
of Human Resources. Students must meet all academic and admission
requirements and expect to/or already be matriculated in a program
of study leading to their first baccalaureate degree. Eligible dependents
are sponsored for a maximum of four years (8 semesters or 12 quarters)
of full-time undergraduate study. Summer sessions are excluded from
this scholarship.
Dependent eligibility offers your dependent(s) the opportunity to
apply for the scholarship. Each individual institution
determines their admission criteria, the number of scholarships offered
and the timeline for their process. |
| |
| |
| We encourage
students to contact the Tuition Exchange Liaison Officer of prospective
colleges for deadlines and criteria used in awarding these competitive
scholarships. For a list of liaison names, please call 315-443-1513
to speak with the Scholarship Office, or email scholar@syr.edu.
|
|
| Coverage
and Requirements |
The dollar amount of the scholarship is determined by the tuition
charged by each individual institution. Most scholarships cover
full tuition. There is a minimum amount set by the Tuition Exchange,
Inc., ($26,800 in 2008-2009). Schools with tuition rates higher
than this amount may opt to award only the minimum. Student fees,
course fees, books, course overloads, and room and board are not
covered by the scholarship. Full-time enrollment is required by
all institutions. Some schools may request all
or one of the following: |
- minimum Grade
Point Average(GPA) requirement for renewal;
- filing for
federal and state financial aid;
- limit the
scholarship to two years (4 semesters or 6 quarters) and/or they
may require the student to live on campus.

| Starting
the Process |
1.
You and your student should review the list of Tuition Exchange
schools available at the Tuition
Exchange, Inc.
2. Contact the Office of Scholarship Programs via email at scholar@syr.edu
to request the names of the Tuition Exchange Liaison Officers at
any school(s) you may be interested in.
3. You should contact the Tuition Exchange Liaison Officer at each
school your student may be considering for admission. We recommend
that you ask each Liaison Officer the following questions: |
- How many
scholarships will be awarded?
- What are
the criteria used to award scholarships?
- What is the
dollar value of the scholarship?
- Is preference
given to Early Decision admission?
- When is award
notification sent out?
- What are
the requirements for renewal?
|
| 4.
Begin the application process for each school. |

| Application
Information |
There
are three separate steps to apply for the Tuition Exchange Scholarship.
Please note: Completion of any of these steps does not guarantee a
scholarship to the school of your choice.
Click to view a diagram of the steps that
are listed below.
|
1.
Visit the Syracuse University Office
of Human Resources web site to find more information and the
forms for Dependent Benefit eligibility. Contact: Office of Human
Resources, 443-4042.
There are two separate forms that you must complete to apply for
the Tuition Exchange Scholarship. To view the forms, you may use
the links below or you may visit the form section of the Office
of Human Resources' web site.

Tuition Exchange Application
-- The
Dependent Benefits Application
|
2.
Apply for admission to the school(s) of choice AND
the Tuition Exchange Scholarship at the same time (usually late fall
of the dependent’s senior year of high school). Filing for Tuition
Exchange Scholarship eligibility before applying
for admission is encouraged. Please note: Admissions Application
Deadlines vary from institution to institution.
3. Upon dependent eligibility certification, the Office of Human Resources
files the Tuition Exchange Scholarship Application(s) with the Office
of Scholarship Programs. Scholarship Programs will then submit the
Tuition Exchange Applications to the requested schools and the families
are notified via an email or letter that their applications were submitted. |
|
|
| Notification
of Scholarship |
| Notification
of scholarship varies from institution to institution. Many schools
notify students shortly after admission and others wait until April
1. You should contact the individual school to determine their notification
schedule. |
|
| Notification
and Acceptance of a Tuition Exchange Scholarship |
| Your
student will be notified of admission and/or a Tuition Exchange scholarship
directly from the awarding institution. The student must
accept or reject the offer within the guidelines and deadlines of
that institution. We strongly encourage your student to contact every
school they applied to as soon as he/she decides which school to accept
admission to, especially if your student is awarded a Tuition Exchange
Scholarship at more than one school. Many schools are limited in the
number of scholarships they are able to award and your notification
to them could be very important to another student. If you
have questions, please contact Judy Minns, 443-2593, scholar@syr.edu. |
|
| Renewing
a Tuition Exchange Scholarship |
| Eligible
dependent(s) must be re-certified each year by Syracuse University’s
Office of Human Resources. Visit the HR
web site to download the Dependent Benefit Application, and submit
your completed Dependent Benefit application and required documentation
to Winnie Pitzeruse, Office of Human Resources, Skytop Office Building. |
