How can you realize your dream of attaining a world-class education at Syracuse University? Apply for financial aid. It’s easier than you think!

The University strives to meet the financial need of admitted students and offers a variety of funding options to help make college as affordable as possible. Consider these facts:

  • During the previous academic year, approximately 81% of Syracuse University students received some form of financial support totaling more than $525 million, including assistance from institutional, federal, state, or private sources.
  • The single largest form of that financial aid was more than $394 million given to students in the form of Syracuse University grants and scholarships.

Incoming students should adhere to the published dates and deadlines to ensure the timely processing of their Financial Aid applications.

Merit-based scholarships are offered by the Office of Admissions at the time of admission. Merit scholarships are based on the overall strength of the student’s application for admission. There is no separate application for merit-based scholarships.

To receive full consideration of need-based financial aid, students and families should complete the FAFSA and the CSS Profile.

Aid offers are sent out following the student’s admissions decision. To receive your aid offer in a timely manner, students and families should adhere to published deadlines and continually check their MySlice student portal for any required documentation.

We may request additional information from students and families for a variety of reasons. The student will receive an email regarding any missing information, as well as having any missing information posted on their MySlice To Do List.

» Starting July 1, 2026, the Department of Education has placed both annual and aggregate limits for Parent PLUS Loan borrowers.

  • The bill has set the maximum Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan at $20,000 per dependent student, per year, and set the aggregate limit per dependent student at $65,000 for students beginning a new undergraduate program on or after July 1, 2026, and those who do not meet the legacy provisions.
    • This Parent PLUS Loan aggregate limit applies without regard to any amounts repaid, forgiven, canceled, or otherwise discharged on any such loan.
  • Legacy provisions may be in place for individuals who have borrowed federal student loans before July 1, 2026. Please review specific legacy provision criteria on our Upcoming Federal Changes page.
  • More information is forthcoming, but students and families can find detailed information on our Upcoming Federal Changes page.

Important Note for Incoming Undergraduate Students and Families: To receive a timely aid offer, students must submit the FAFSA and CSS Profile by the published due date. We will continue to accept aid applications submitted after the published due dates.  However, applications submitted after the published deadlines will be considered for federal financial aid. Students will be considered for Syracuse University grant funding on a funds-available basis.
