Center for Fellowship and Scholarship Advising
Syracuse University’s Center for Fellowship and Scholarship Advising (CFSA) works to raise awareness of competitive national fellowship opportunities among undergraduates, graduate students, and recent alumni. CFSA helps connect applicants with awards best suited to their goals and qualifications, and assists with every stage of the application process from planning and drafting materials, to preparing for interviews.

Outside Scholarships
A good place to start your outside scholarships search is within your own community, you may perhaps wish to contact organizations with which you’re already affiliated.
- Your local Chamber of Commerce
- Your academic institution
- Your parent’s employers
- Your employer (if employed)
- Private foundation
- Religious organizations
- Professional associations
- Civic Organizations
In most cases, the awarding agency is responsible for selecting the recipient and determining the value of the scholarship.
Reputable Scholarship Sites
Before you begin your scholarship search, familiarize yourself with scholarship scams and how to avoid them. Increase your odds of finding scholarship opportunities by searching more than one reputable scholarship search engine. Start your search early and apply to as many opportunities as you can.

Report your Outside Scholarship
Any student who has been awarded an outside scholarship should submit the Educational Resource Form. The scholarship notification letter or email should be included when submitting this form.

- Return Address for organization or donor
- If the check is for the fall semester, spring semester, or academic year

How do Outside Scholarships impact my aid?
The Financial Aid Office will try to add the award to the student’s account without reducing any aid. If the student’s package needs to be reduced, a representative will make the proper changes and note the student’s account.
